A bailiff cannot collect money on a debt that you are already repaying directly to the council via PaymentPlan. Please contact us immediately if this happens.
If you don't pay your council tax, your local council will usually send a reminder giving you the opportunity to catch up on missed payments. If the debt remains unpaid, you could lose the right to pay by instalments, be asked to pay the full outstanding balance, and face court action, which may result in additional costs. The council can then take enforcement action, such as deducting money from your wages or benefits, or using enforcement agents (bailiffs) where permitted. If you're struggling to pay, it's important to contact your council as soon as possible, as they may be able to arrange a payment plan or check whether you're eligible for financial support or discounts.
